Lighting Technician/Programmer

SUMMARY

The position of LD1, LD2, or LD3 Lighting Technician requires an experienced technician to work on an event/job site.  This person must demonstrate both technical abilities, crew leadership skills, and have the ability to interface with the client in a professional manor.  

LD1 Lead Lighting Programmer/Technician Job Requirements:

  • Ability to completely set up a professional-level lighting system, which also includes:
    • Operation & programming of DMX consoles (GrandMA, HOG etc)
    • Understanding of setup, flying & rigging of truss systems & safety
    • Understanding of DMX-controlled intelligent lighting (Such as Martin, Clay Paky professional line products)
    • Ability to safely connect to power, including building power & generators, especially if an electrician is not present.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues including:
    • DMX control issues
    • Power issues
    • Lighting fixtures

LD2 Lighting Technician Job Requirements:

  • Ability to completely set up a lighting system, which also includes:
    • Operation of mid-level lighting control consoles & dimmers (Including Leprecon, Martin M1, Martin M-PC/LightJockey)
    • Understanding of DMX-control
    • Ability to safely connect to power, including building power & generators, especially if an electrician is not present.
    • Operate a followspot
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues including:
    • DMX control issues
    • Power issues
    • Lighting fixtures

LD3 Lighting Technician Job Requirements:

  • Ability to completely set up small lighting systems, which also includes:
    • 8 can lighting systems
    • Operation of lighting control consoles & dimmers
    • Operate a followspot
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues including:
    • Power issues
    • Lighting fixtures

  • Should have the ability to supervise other personnel.
  • Should have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Should have good presentation skills.
  • Should have good customer relations skills.
  • Should be willing to train other technicians.
  • Should have attention to detail.  Make sure that there are no trip hazards, maintain a clean space, have a critical eye to anticipate client objections.
  • Should have a sense of urgency.  Should work diligently to get the event up and running as quickly as possible.
  • Should be timely.  Prompt arrival to the shop and the client site is very important.
  • Should have a positive attitude and a desire to succeed.
  • Should have a commitment to excellence

Lighting Technicians will be periodically reviewed on the following criteria:

  • Technical Skills
  • Interaction with customers
  • Reliability/Timeliness
