Production Department Audio Manager

SUMMARY

The position of a Tier 1 Department Manager requires an experienced staff member to handle day-to-day operations of his/her department.  This person must demonstrate technical abilities, crew leadership skills, and organizational skills.  There are several departments that may require a Department Manager including audio, lighting, backline, staging, and video.  The Department Manager is a full-time position however is also an off-site technician, so time will be split between shop time and job site time.  In addition, the Department Manager is not dedicated specifically to his/her department, and will be asked to move around to assist in other departments under that department’s manager.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of the test, maintenance, & repair of the department’s equipment.
  • The ability to safely load & unload trucks
  • The ability to diagnose issues, and assess equipment in need of repair.
  • Tracking repairs – keep track of the location and repair status of equipment.

Computer Skills

  • Ability to learn company booking software (R2) to track equipment being sent out/returned, marking equipment as damaged/repaired, and checking actual inventory counts against the computer’s counts.  

 

EVERYDAY SUCCESS SKILLS

  • Should have the ability to supervise & assign other personnel to accomplish tasks.
  • Should have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Should be willing to train other technicians.
  • Should be timely.  Prompt arrival to the shop is very important.
  • Should have a positive attitude and a desire to succeed.
  • Should have a commitment to excellence
  • Should be organized and keep a clean work space.

Department Managers will be periodically reviewed on the following criteria:

  • Inventory tracking accuracy
  • Monitoring the condition of equipment
  • Reliability/Timeliness

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To apply for the Audio Department Manager position, you must have experience in the following:

  • Line Array setup/rigging
  • Large format digital consoles (Yamaha, Avid, etc)
  • Multi-way Speaker Systems
  • Dedicated Monitors/IEM mixing
